Regulations in some countries of the world allow self-driving vehicles (private cars and robo-taxis) to operate on geofenced, public roads, yet governments are slow to plan as how best to use this automated technology. We pose research questions about the Australian government’s preparedness, planning gaps for a transition to an autonomous public transport system, and specific system components that require attention.
