The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) has approved the implementation of a new light rail transit (LRT) segment called the Copper Line that will connect the El Cajon Transit Center and Santee Trolley Station, serving four stations. This line will replace the existing Green and Orange Line LRT service.
The agency is in the process of deploying security staff and training personnel to assist in station activities. It will reduce the need to transfer between lines and enable a smooth transit flow. The agency also plans on extending the Green Line LRT service to El Cajon Transit Center to reduce wait times and allow inter- exchange.
The Copper Line is expected to begin operations in October, 2024.
