The UNDP report on low-emission transport in Latin America and the Caribbean highlights the transport sector’s significant contribution to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, comprising 37.7% of the region’s CO2 emissions. The study assesses the progress of 20 countries in meeting Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, with a focus on four key areas: transport supply, demand management, urban planning, and gender equality. While 18 countries prioritize public transport modernization, only six focus on freight emissions, and urban planning remains largely overlooked.
