The Latin America E-Bus Market Monitor 2024 report by ICCT highlights the region’s rapid progress in electric bus (e-bus) adoption. As of December 2024, over 6,000 electric buses have been deployed in the region. Santiago, the capital of Chile, and Bogota, the capital of Colombia, collectively account for 65 per cent of the electric buses deployed in the region. The report also highlights the dominance of China-based bus manufacturers in the region. Prominent China-based suppliers, including BYD, Foton, and Yutong, collectively accounted for 85 per cent of the buses supplied in the region between 2018 and 2024. Local manufacturers accounted for 9 per cent of the buses supplied, while the European suppliers accounted for 2 per cent of the buses supplied in the region.
