The uptake of electric buses in Africa has been gaining momentum over the past few years, with successful implementation into the public transport space prefaced by policy support and in some instances by placing an emphasis on domestic manufacturing. A recent report from the Africa E-Mobility Alliance (AfEMA), commissioned by the Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative (TUMI) E-Bus mission, evaluates the state of electric bus (e-bus) adoption in the continent. It focuses on 10 countries: Cameroon, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa and Uganda. The report – Building Visibility on Electric Bus Initiatives in Africa: Accelerating Sustainable Mass Transport – highlights the current progress, challenges, and opportunities for e-bus deployment in Africa as of July 2024.
