The Government of Brazil has launched the latest Growth Acceleration Plan, covering projects worth BRL1.7 trillion. Of this, BRL33 billion has been allocated for the development of 13 urban transport projects and two passenger rail projects.

The plan includes development of eight under-construction urban transport projects. These are Salvador and Lauro de Freitas Bahia Metro Line; Fortaleza Metro East Line 1; Fortaleza Metro East Line 2; Ceilândia Metro Expansion; Ceilândia Metro Modernisation; Extension of São Paulo Metro Line 2 Green Vila Prudente–Guarulhos; Extension of São Paulo CPTM Line 9–Grajaú/Varginha; and the Baixada Santista light rail system.

The plan includes development of five urban transport projects which are under study. These are Maceió Alagoas Rail; João Pessoa Paraíba Rail; Recife Pernambuco Metro Upgrade; Rio de Janeiro Metro Line 3; Natal Rio Grande do Norte Rail.

The plan includes two passenger rail projects, which are the São Paulo–Campinas intercity train project and improvement of rail lines in the Juiz de Fora and Barra Mansa areas, as well as studies of national passenger and freight projects.
