BC Transit has received funding of USD400 million from the federal and provincial governments to purchase a new electric-bus fleet and to install support infrastructure. The grant will be utilised for the procurement of 115 new electric buses and for the installation of 134 charging stations.
Of the total funding, USD170 million has been provided by the federal government, USD159 million has been provided by the provincial government of British Columbia, and USD67 million has been provided by BC Transit. The investment is directed by the strategy developed by BC Transit in 2019. BC Transit aims to transition to a 100 per cent battery electric fleet by 2040.
