The Gateway Development Commission (GDC) Board of Commissioners has awarded a USD1.8 billion contract to Frontier-Kemper-Tutor-Perini JV for the Manhattan Tunnel Project. The board has also authorized the notice to commence construction works and approved a memorandum of understanding (MoU) linked to the project.

The works include the excavation of approximately 550,000 cubic yards of material and the installation of a 900-foot-long concrete tunnel box to accommodate future rail tracks. Construction is expected to commence in the coming months and is projected to be completed by 2029.

Funding agreements of USD16 billion come from a mix of federal, state, and local sources, with strong support from Amtrak and New Jersey Transit Corporation (New Jersey Transit).
