Brisbane Airport awards contract for bus fleet; to develop monorail [free access]

June 6, 2017

Carbridge has signed a five-year contract worth AUD25 million to build, operate and maintain the Brisbane Airport bus fleet. The contract will commence from July 1, 2017, and the new electric bus fleet will commence full operation by February 2018.

The scope of work includes supply of 11 Toro electric buses for passenger ground transportation. The Toro buses are powered by BYD electric engines and built with lightweight aluminium. They have a driving range of 600 km on a single charge and use kinetic regeneration technology to produce charge as the bus decelerates.

In addition, the authority plans to introduce monorail to connect the domestic and international airport terminals with car parking facilities. The planned system is expected to carry 3,200 passengers per hour in both directions. It is scheduled to commence operations by 2022.
