Egypt to build HSR lines, begins feasibility study on Cairo–Luxor HSR [free access]

Ineco has begun the feasibility study for Cairo–Luxor high-speed rail (HSR) line. The line will span 700 km and is expected to cost USD6 billion. It is proposed to be financed through BOT (built-operate-transfer) model or direct finance. The annual ridership is estimated to be 3.4 million passengers.

 

The Ministry of Transport in Egypt has announced plans to develop three HSR lines. The Luxor-Hurghada line will span 300 km and is expected to require investment of USD4 billion. It will have annual ridership capacity of 1.5 million passengers. The Alexandria–Cairo line will span 210 km and is expected to require investment of USD3 billion. It will have annual ridership capacity of 2.3 million passengers.
