Lebanon-based Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) has secured a USD700-million contract from Qatar Rail Company (Qatar Rail) for the completion of construction work of Msheireb and Education city stations of Doha Metro.
A joint venture (JV) of Spain-based Obrascon Huarte Lain (OHL), South Korea-based Samsung C&T and the Qatar Building Company had secured a USD1.2-billion contract for the two stations in 2013. However, in 2016, the contract was terminated and in May 2016, CCC was awarded a six- month construction management contract for the stations.
Doha Metro is being developed in two phases at an estimated cost of USD15 billion. It will comprise four lines (Red, Blue, Gold and Green). Phase I will span 80 km (63 km underground). The Red, Gold and Green lines will together span 75 km and cover 37 stations. Commercial operations are expected to begin in 2019.
