Israel’s National Council for Design and Construction has approved the development of an interurban light-rail transit (LRT) line. The line will span 43 km span from Haifa to Nazareth, covering 12 stations. It is expected to cost USD1.6 billion. A fleet of 32 trains will be deployed. Each train will be 52 metres long; have capacity to carry 300 passengers (130 seated) and operate at a maximum speed of 100 km/hr.
Cross Israel Highway Company will manage and invite tenders for the project.
