Middle East: Upcoming urban rail projects [free access]

October 1, 2016

Unlike other regions, rail has not been the prevalent mode of transportation in the Middle East and African region. Urban rail is a relatively new phenomenon in the region. According to estimates, the urban rail network across Middle Eastern countries is planned to be expanded to a length of more than over 1,200 km. Most of the projects are coming up in Saudi Arabia. The following table provides the current status of upcoming urban rail lines and extension projects.
